Blog Fifty Two

Good Monday Morning

To start this weeks blog, “When does a new day start? It starts at midnight when it’s dark. So a new day and new beginning starts when it’s dark, that’s where all new beginnings start, when it’s dark, but you don’t realise this until years later..”

It has been a really exciting week in our yard. The workload of the horses has stepped up significantly and we are less than 4 weeks away from our first runner now, which could be at Doncaster at the Lincoln meeting, all being well. All the foundations have been laid and we are looking forward to the turf season, albeit still small in numbers. Our team of staff and horses are really busy preparing, having chosen to have a quiet winter.

Sales of horses picked up this last month as well and we have very few shares left to sell via Catch Us If You Can Racing and Quest Thoroughbreds.

We are busy actively going around and looking at breeze up horses and will be at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sales as well as Tattersalles Goresbridge Breeze Up Sales and Arqana Deauville Breeze Up Sales. Our team is already working on things behind the scenes and I urge you to get in touch and plan to be part of it all at the up coming breeze up sales.

I managed to finally take an afternoon off and alongside my old man, headed to The Emirates Stadium to watch Arsenal play. It was a really exciting game and honestly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Interestingly, football handle crowds really well. There was no queuing anywhere and drinks were really well priced. Way less than what a drink at racing costs. Good for thought for racecourses anyway. I won’t talk about Liverpool’s hammering of Manchester United, however, I will say, there has been a lot of banter on the Heath this morning between the lads!

It looks as if though we are in for a chilly week with snow foarecast, but we are lucky to train at HQ where The Jockey Club Estate team always manage to keep the tracks open for training, no matter the weather. It’s quite unbelievable really, how they manage to keep all the tracks open and in great condition all year round. Fantastic place to train and be based.

As we continue to grow, we have space for more horses and owners as well. Our yard is also still looking for a yard sponsor to partner with us.

The new whip rule continues to be a wild news headline in the racing world. I personally feel that there are so much more important issues to focus on and this has been a serious distraction and waste of money to the sport. As someone who has watched racing their whole lives, I cannot notice the difference to be honest, so I’m sure the general public won’t either. What I feel is more important, would be educating the public on the severity of the actual whip which is used for encouragement in all directions. You can give yourself a good whack and it hardly feels like anything but does make a noise. It’s extremely forgiving and I feel that point should’ve been given more focus, rather than bowing to the snowflake society.

We head to Cheltenham next week, I will try and find a few fancies for next Mondays blog, aside from the exciting Constitution Hill.

Our greyhound Athena’s Spear won again last Wednesday at Harlow. She continues to try her best and run her heart out for us. It was good fun to watch and the lads in the yard and on our ownership groups all had a little fun at 11/4.

A reminder to plan to visit us for our open day on the 16th of April. Come and visit the team of horses and staff and enjoy the day with us.

To close out today; “The heaviest burdens we carry, are thoughts in our heads!”
