Good Monday Morning

As we start another great week with these amazing thoroughbreds, a thought; “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”

The past week has been a really exciting one for the yard. Our babies have stepped up another notch and a few had a look at the grass for the first time on Saturday. They were all well behaved and went up really nicely and came back sound and ate up, with a Sunday off to think about things. We will show a few more the grass this week so that they have at least all seen it until the rain comes in the spring and they can regularly go on it.

We don’t have any runners for the next 2 months as we build the whole yard into the turf season. We don’t have the numbers to keep having runners all year so have had to carefully plan and be patient focusing on the up coming summer.

Our Bloodstock team Jordan, Luiz, John and myself had shortlisted two horses at the Tattersalls Horses In Training Sale last week and Jordan in particular had made lot 304 Gold Medal his nap of the sale and I’m happy to say we managed to buy him. He is already about 50% sold out, so get in touch with Quest Thoroughbreds and get your share of him. He’s back at the yard and settled in and starts trotting this morning.

Catch Us If You Can Racing has two really exciting horses to be involved in as well and both 2 year olds are forward and won’t take long before running in the summer. Battleofbaltimore is a Starspangledbanner colt who’s flying and for £350 upfront you get 2.5% share and £75pm all in. Empress Lulu by Muharaar out of a mare who produced a Breeders Cup runner, leasehold shares with no upfront costs and £75pm all in. Contact Andrew and join the fun.

Catch Us If You Can Racing also has a Greyhound that arrived from Ireland last weekend which some of the members have got involved in. His name is Catch My Tail and nicknamed Buddy after Paul Murphy’s fancy for a Budweiser and he selected the dog for us. Be sure to look out for him in the future.

As costs continue to rise and prize money stays dismally the same, I am watching and interested to see if the ROA do anything to try and help the owners and make ownership more attractive. They are there to represent the owner, so I’m really fascinated to see if anything is done over the next 12 months. We shall have to watch this space…

Save the date for our yards open day Sunday 16 April 2023. We look forward to having you visit the stables.

I am doing a week of Thoroughbred Tales this week on Twitter so be sure to follow them and watch our uploads. It’s basically videos trying to educate non racing people about the amazing game we are privileged to be part of and the amazing horse and staff we work with. I’m hoping to make it interesting during the week and show how things work day to day in the yard.

To close today’s blog and get you going on this fine Monday Morning, a reminder; “Nobody’s coming to save you. Get up. Be your own hero!”
